Why you should volunteer

Volunteering...
connects you to the community.

When you volunteer at the food pantry, you have the chance to directly interact with the people you are serving. You get to walk alongside people facing difficult situations and encourage them. Volunteering gives you the opportunity to meet people from many walks of life, and it shows you that there truly is a need in Sioux County.

1

Volunteering...
allows you to use your skills in a productive way.

Everyone has been blessed with their own unique gifts and talents, and they can be put to use by volunteering at the food pantry. Some people are great at getting to know guests and encouraging them while others have the physical ability to carry heavy boxes of food to stock the shelves. Everyone can use their skills to serve others.

2

Volunteering...
provides a sense of purpose.

Volunteering regularly gives you a servant’s heart and allows you to find joy in serving those in need in the community. When you help out at a local nonprofit, you see needs in the community, and you have the desire to help. Giving your time and energy allows you to make a difference in the lives of many people.

3

Volunteering...
helps you stay physically healthy.

When you volunteer at the food pantry, you are always moving. Whether you are walking through the aisles with a guest, stocking shelves, or preparing carts for the next guest, there is always something to do. Health benefits associated with being active include lowered blood pressure and reduced risk for heart attacks.

4

Volunteering...
helps counteract the effects of stress, anger, and anxiety.

Simply put, volunteering makes you feel good! Life can be busy but taking the time to slow down and serve refreshes the soul. Studies have shown that helping others releases hormones in the brain that make you feel happy.

5

Volunteering...
reflects God's love and purpose for you.

When you serve others at the food pantry, you become a living expression of the compassion and generosity that God calls believers to embody. By meeting the physical needs of neighbors, you echo the biblical principle that caring for the hungry and the vulnerable is a direct way of honoring God as stated in Matthew 25:35‑40.
